Childrens Hospital Courage Classic 2010

Bretheren,

We recently received a comment from a brother fellowcraft asking that we support him and particularly his wifes endevour to raise funds for Childrens Hospital.  Our new brother is looking for ways to incorporate the exemplary conduct of Masonry into his family by including his wifes endevours to help this fine organization. Please read his comments and most importantly help Childrens Hospital in any way we can.

Fraternally,
Darrell J. Noble WM, 32°

Fellowcraft – Lodge 153 – CO – USA

I recently saw where you said “It is by our exemplary conduct as Masons in raising our families and in our business and professional relationships, that we will attract new men to our Fraternity. When we speak of the moral and ethical principles of Freemasonry only within the Lodge, they can become stale and routine recitations of ritual. But when we begin to live by these precepts and apply them in our dealings with our families, friends, and the society at large, not only will we have an effect on those around us, but also we will attract new members and Masons to our Lodges.”

That directly impacted me. I recently had to choose between getting to have an outdoor 3rd degree or personal obligations. I chose to go with what Masonry was about…
So, thank you.

I have to admit as a guy, I am uncomfortable asking for help, but I think this is worth it.
Would you help this Fellowcraft create for my wife some of the sense of support and belonging that being part of the Masonic family can offer?

While I have her complete support in being a Mason, since she does not get a chance to be directly involved in things, the impact of the Craft isn’t really felt directly. As a Social Worker for the Denver Hospice, she has recently had some exposure to Masons being good men, but this hair-brained idea of mine can set it in stone..

The last week of July is a fundraising bicycle ride through the mountains to raise money for Childrens Hospital. The bicycle ride is about 150 miles and over 10,000 feet of climbing over three days.

This year is very different. My wife, Nina, is also doing the ride. It is a huge leap of faith for her to join me doing this. She is not much of a bicycle rider.

Would you go to her site and donate or at least leave a comment of support? The website I set up for her is:  http://www.couragetours.com/2010/ninamizer

My sending this note to you allows me to support her in doing something important to her, and your support of her can create an environment where she understands the time spent apart from family for Masonic activities, and education in future years.

Thanks for doing what you feel comfortable doing and please feel free to pass on this email to others. I think getting a lot of people visiting could be historical.

Thanks !

The Petition For Membership

SYMBOLICAL MASONRY – THE PETITION FOR MEMBERSHIP
H. L. Haywood

The first step toward seeking admission into the membership of a Masonic lodge is to file with the Worshipful Master of the lodge nearest one’s residence a petition, which is a printed form fundamentally the same in all jurisdictions; this form sets forth the petitioner’s answers to the usual constitutional questions and solemnly asserts that he has not been “improperly solicited,” but that he has sought the portals of the Fraternity of his own free will and accord. Before this petition can be presented to the lodge, which is usually done at the next regular monthly communication, or business meeting, it must bear the signatures of at least two Masons by way of recommendation; and then, after an interval, usually of one month, is put to the ballot. If the prayer for membership is then granted the petitioner is instructed to present himself for initiation: if the prayer is denied the fee, which has accompanied the petition, is returned, and the petitioner is notified of his rejection. In a majority of American jurisdictions (by “jurisdiction” is meant the territory over which a Grand Lodge holds sway: in the United States it is almost always coincident with the political boundaries of a state) the man is permitted to enter another petition after a certain fixed interval, after which second application the procedure is substantially the same as outlined above. THE BALLOT
By H. L. Haywood

Freemasonry is a social and moral institution that undertakes to build a symbolic Temple of which its members are the living stones; inasmuch as the stability of the structure depends upon the materials of which it is composed it is obvious that the Craft must exercise every precaution lest unfit men weaken its walls. To guard against this it makes use of the secret ballot as an instrument of selection. Because of this most important use the ballot-box may well be described, as one writer has phrased it, “a bulwark of the Order. It is no exaggeration to say that ninety per cent of the trouble and lack of harmony in our lodges arises from the improper use of the ballot.” I believe that this statement is an exaggeration, for I have observed that many troubles have their origin elsewhere, but for all that there is much sense in it. The ballot is to the Order what the sentinel is to an army, what the tyler is to a lodge. Read more

Canton Viaduct Masonic Memorial and Milestone

April 20, 2010 by Administration

Background:
The Canton Viaduct is the longest and oldest stone viaduct in the Western Hemisphere. The foundation stone was laid in 1834, and it was completed in 1835 by operative stone masons, many of whom were also Freemasons from area towns and Lodges. To commemorate the viaduct’s 175th anniversary and the Freemasons who were involved in the construction of this historic structure, it is being proposed that a granite stone obelisk be erected in or near the Canton Viaduct Park next to the waterfall on the west side of the structure near the Neponset Street opening. It is very likely that many of the Towns in the area had Freemasons from various Lodges that existed at the time who worked on the viaduct. This summer or fall, a multitown celebration commemorating the 175th anniversary of this National Historic Monument is expected to be held in Canton at the site of the structure. It is anticipated that numerous dignitaries will be there (It would be nice to get Officers from all the Lodges in the area there as well as other Grand Lodge dignitaries at this event as well) Read more

DON’T LET THE MASONIC BAND CAMP MARCH WITHOUT YOUR STUDENT

The 2010 MASONIC HIGH SCHOOL BAND CAMP will be held on The University of Northern Colorado Campus (UNC) in Greeley, Colorado, from June 29 to July 3, 2010. We encourage your organization to provide a scholarship for one or more students. The Fees are $300.00 for each High School student, which covers the expenses except travel to and from Greeley. This fee can come from organization funds, members donations, or other means. All Colorado High School Band Directors will be sent an announcement, as well as a student application form. Should your organization wish to provide a scholarship for this program you may contact any High School Band Director as soon as possible, informing them that you are offering a scholarship(s) and ask them to select a student. Feel free to contact: Marvin Feldman, at 303-771-2889, email: mafhorn@comcast.net or the Grand Lodge at 719-471-9587 or 303-872-6120 Web site: coloradofreemasons.org for assistance.

It is very important that after a student is selected, you contact him/her prior to the Band Camp to make certain that the student is going to attend and, you may wish to bring the student and his/her parents to your Lodge/meeting to meet them and present them their scholarship. This would make a wonderful meeting night program and is a great way to get Masonic awareness.

All monies and application forms should be in no later that April 15, 2010. Recipients will be notified by the first week in May. Enrollment is limited to 120 students, so don’t delay in contacting your High School Band Director.

The High School Band Director can help you select a student. Students must be enrolled as 9th grade, 10th grade, and 11th grade students during the 2009-2010 school year. They should be experienced with at least one marching band instrument. If you wish to sponsor more then one student you may do so. Please send us their names and the instrument they play, this will help us develop a well-balanced instrumentation.

If you are unable to find a student(s) to sponsor the Band Camp will be happy to find a student(s) for you as we always have applicants from many areas where there is no sponsor.
The Colorado Masonic Band Camp is a 501c(3) tax exempt charitable corporation organized under the laws of Colorado. All donations are tax deductible.
